Honda Expands Recall Relating to Driver’s Airbag Inflator

Honda has expanded a previously announced recall of certain 2001 through 2003 model-year Honda and Acura vehicles to replace the drivers airbag inflator originally installed in approximately 273,000 additional vehicles sold in the US

Affected drivers airbag inflators may deploy with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to rupture and could result in injury or fatality

Honda has also determined that approximately 640 affected drivers airbag service parts were sold for installation in vehicles for collision repair or other vehicle service

Because Honda is unable to determine the specific vehicles that may have received the affected service parts through existing information, Honda will inspect an additional approximately 603,000 vehicles and replace those parts as necessary

This recall now includes certain 2001 and 2002 Accord, 2001 to 2003 Civic, 2001 to 2003 Odyssey, 2002 and 2003 CR-V, 2003 Pilot, 2002 and 2003 Acura 32 TL and 2003 Acura 32 CL vehicles

Notification to the expanded group of customers will begin in late December 2011

Insurers won’t quit NZ, says local Vero chief

Fears about a withdrawal of major insurers and reinsurers from the New Zealand market are misplaced, according to Vero NZ CEO Gary Dransfield.

He told the Trans Tasman Business Circle in Auckland last week while there’s conjecture about the industry’s future following the Canterbury earthquakes, the future for the industry in New Zealand is very promising.

Mr Dransfield says insurers are reassessing their businesses, “not to withdraw but to build stronger, more sustainable businesses”.

He also called for a sustainable earthquake insurance approach in New Zealand built around the country’s Earthquake Commission (EQC).

He says the commission should have a wider role in the future to ensure an approach that is commercially feasible, affordable and capable of coping.
